Puzzling Magenta Sludge on Remote Tasmanian Beach Raises Fears of Likely Phytoplankton Proliferation

Authorities in the island state are working to identify a magenta ooze that has materialized on a isolated coast, with some scientists worried it could be an algal bloom.

Broad Appearance On Beaches

The magenta-hued slime appeared along a portion of a southern bay about 60km south of the capital. A comparable ooze has also been documented on areas of a nearby shore and Little Taylors Bay.
