The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... Currently.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed series reaching its finale—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the writers' room recently discussed the fan response and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and online debates surrounding Pluribus. The creator is striving to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's on purpose. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Will the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that the writers aren't taking cues by audience theories, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… sort of.

“There are some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to abandon a decent plan for a better idea. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, one could always use the classics?

“I want Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
