The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG
The intense universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division is being translated into a tabletop role-playing experience. A collaboration was established to develop a TTRPG set within the series' post-pandemic setting. This initiative was revealed, with a funding drive scheduled to launch in April of 2026.
"This endeavor will bring the franchise’s distinctive tension, tactical intensity, and memorable setting to the tabletop, offering fans a new way to engage with The Division through immersive storytelling and mission-based gameplay," reads an announcement.
Launch products are set to feature a beginner's box, core rulebooks, a Game Master screen, miniatures, and several deluxe editions.
Delving Into The Division's Apocalyptic World
In this universe, a lethal pathogen known as Green Poison was unleashed in New York City, sending the United States into turmoil. As the crisis worsens, civil order breaks down and hostile groups emerge, transforming the urban landscape into a warzone. To restore law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of undercover operatives. That’s where the agents enter the story.
Work on the game has been underway for about several years, and it is confirmed to be finished. The forthcoming Kickstarter campaign will serve as a preorder system to access a wider audience, specifically in North America. Production is slated to begin immediately following the campaign, with deliveries expected for the latter part of 2026.
An Innovative Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System
A preview at the game's rules reveals it uses d10s predominantly through its new GRIS system, encouraging a streamlined and strategic approach. Agents use skills or traits to assemble small dice pools, usually between one and five d10s.
- Rather than adding results together, participants select a single “resolution die” from the pool.
- This dice is then measured against a target difficulty.
- Achieving a natural 10 triggers special effects, such as extra damage or boosted support.
Engagements Focus On Positioning and Awareness
Battles prioritize placement and situational awareness, mirroring the video games. Factors like cover, elevation, or visibility directly influence success chances. This system is designed to favor teamwork and clever tactics over raw numbers.
A Novel Wound Mechanic
The way health is managed introduces a compelling narrative layer. Agents have a wound threshold; sustaining too much damage reduces their capabilities by lowering the size of their dice pool.
- At critical condition, an operative is downed, but is not unconscious.
- They can still move and take limited actions, simulating the last stand seen in many shooter games.
- Any player knocked down must roll on a injury chart, risking lingering conditions like trauma or crippling injuries.
An Introductory Adventure
A publicly available Quickstart Guide is promised in the near future. It includes a ready-to-play introductory scenario called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, the group lead the search for a lost doctor squad and must thwart an assault by the violent Rikers gang, who have taken over that Manhattan district. Further information and the full range of offerings are expected to be unveiled closer to the campaign launch.
