Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, most notably the soft-colored suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

This news arrives less than a month after he unveiled his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by outfits on model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in shaping form-fitting garments established him as a "true original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The industry mourns the loss to a true visionary whose influence on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
