The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The acclaimed police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part series created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, according to the production team.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The previous season concluded in 2021 with a finale that attracted over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to become a offender.
Yet, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the background, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers track the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called appearing in the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the unit return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty premiered in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the new season will premiere.
The conclusion of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
Nevertheless, the network confirmed on this week that a new season is now in development.
