Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
